THE ANNANDALE APPROACH

The Annandale approach is a humanistically and psychodynamically informed approach to counselling and psychotherapy.

The aim of Emotion-Focused  work is to help clients process their emotional experience from the present and the past. Initially the work can focus on current relational and other difficulties. These emotional experiences are processed using a variety of verbal and creative interventions. Healing occurs with the working through of past childhood difficulties in the presence of a respectful, warm and loving therapist who is an enlightened witness and provides corrective emotional responses within a safe and deeply sustaining therapeutic relationship.

In this workshop we will introduce you to the Annandale approach to Emotion-Focused work. We regard it as a sister approach to the Canadian approach developed by Leslie Greenberg and colleagues. We will set out the theory and practice principles. We will differentiate the interventions for talking about and looking on to emotional experience from those interventions that help clients experience and express their emotional experience. We will show you how practitioners work and give you opportunities to practice some of the skills with the support of the trainers. After this workshop, there will be opportunities for further ongoing training.
